#96319. 1999 - Marius Delarche - Corton Grand Cru Renardes - 75cl VAT & duty paid
The Renardes lieux-dit is one of the finest in the Corton Grand Cru, though not often seen - perhaps because only a handful of its proprietors are of any repute (Leroy, Prince de Merode and Delarche). It lies mid-slope with perfect exposure, next to Clos du Roi and above Bressandes - and was rated "tete de cuvee" by Dr Lavalle (along with Le Corton, Clos du Roi and Les Chaumes). Delarche produces an elegant style of Corton - though with plenty of fruit. The 1999 is one of their best performances, and is just starting to drink nicely.

HPB Note
***
Fairly pale blood red with a touch of browning visible on the rim. This is quite thin and unappetising directly on opening but after a few hours of air it blossoms, showing a delightful nose of spicy burnt earth and sweet ripe red fruits. The palate entry is lovely and sweet with rich red fruit, a very classy structure, and a touch of gaminess. This is not a big wine, but it has sweet fruit, great poise and a long finish.

Intensely gamy black fruit with flavors that are sappy, elegant and very long suffused with the classic Renardes sauvage character. The tannins are quite fine and there is excellent length to go with the rich flavors. The complexity is already impressive and this offers a grand cru drinking experience in every respect. There is so much pinot extract that it will drink well young though should have no problem aging for many years.
