This is not yet a well-known name, but I believe Bernard-Bonin is producing some of the most exciting wines of Meursault today… fresh, rich, mineral and vibrant but not confected or trendily reductive – proper white Burgundy. The wines are notable for their purity, texture and freshness, and they are always among the first to harvest in Meursault to make sure this freshness is maintained. The winemaking uses natural yeasts, no enzymes, no chaptalisation, and minimal sulphur throughout the process. Elevage is 15-18 months in 25% new oak and the wines are bottled without fining or filtration.
The Bourgogne Blanc comes from a parcel nestling in between Meursault & Puligny, situated just above the main run of premier crus at around 240m. This is an excellent Bourgogne Blanc in the house style … citric, mineral and perfectly poised, but lacks the dimension and persistence that comes from stepping up to the village wine. Reclaimable VAT is included in this price.
