Ladoix is not a well known village; as Clive Coates so aptly put it "this is not a village the snobs and label hunters are likely to stop at". The flip side of this is that the wines are 'under the radar' and extremely good value. The best vineyards, including this Basses Mourottes are a continuation of Corton Grand Cru. The elevation and geology are the same, but where the slope starts to turn due East (rather than South-East in Corton) the vineyards become 1er cru - literally down the middle of Hautes and Basses Mourottes !
I was properly charmed by this wine, which showed decent weight, nice juicy fruit and good balance, but most importantly real interest. "Excellent for what it is". Reclaimable VAT is included in this price.
