The 1996 Mugneret Ruchottes-Chambertin is a great example of this rocky Grand Cru vineyard that lies upslope of Mazis-Chambertin. The wines are similar to Mazis, though with more structure and finesse, and requiring longer aging. The Mugneret estate regularly produced the best wine here, described by John Gilman as "quintessential Burgundies, intensely-flavored but often only medium-full, poised, elegant, perfumed and very complex wines that repay aging very handsomely."
